2011, a good year for gaming?

2011 was overall quite a disappointing year for gaming.
There were some gems, but mostly bad titles and hardware.

Let's take a look at some of them.

http://media.insidegamer.nl/dump/1286350348.jpgKinect + its games
http://www.gamersnet.nl/images/nieuws/2011/1323254864/nil_nintendo_3ds_hw_image.jpgIt's a useful way to navigate the 360's dashboard. That's about all the Kinect has been good for shortly after people buy it. Why? Because it's been out for over a year now and there still aren't any proper games for it beyond cheap kids titles and party games.
Not good, Microsoft.

The 3DS + its games
This has to be the most disappointing gaming handheld of the 21st century.

"A botched reveal, a ridiculous price-tag, a cumbersome UI, no second thumbstick and no decent games."

Pumping out the same handheld and games for years won't do much good, Nintendo.

http://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Homefront1.jpg
 Duke Nukem Forever
Ahh, Duke Nukem. Him and I go way back.
http://zalu.be/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/brink.jpg Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since 1996, but came out this year. Was it worth the wait? No, no it wasn't.

 Homefront
There were such high hopes for this game. A lot of money was spent, a lot of hype generated. Then people played it, found out the setting was stupid, the story overwrought, the singleplayer terrifyingly short (both on length and ideas) and the multiplayer a novelty that was never going to lure people from whatever shooter they were already playing.

Brink
Like Homefront, this was an original title that many had high hopes for. Its bold art design couldn't hide a launch marred by technical issues and people not quite "getting" the game, though, and while it seems to have stabilised in recent months, Brink will never be the top=-shelf multiplayer shooter it wanted to be.

2012 seems promising, though.

About time! New Skyrim patch adds support for extra RAM.

Forex
Up until last night, people with decent 64 bit PCs couldn't use that extra 'juice' on TESV: Skyrim, unless you installed a mod for it.
In other news, Bethesda are currently working on official mod tools for Skyrim, which should arrive early next year.

Yup.

Minicraft!

Minicraft
You know that game called Minecraft?
I think you do, I mean, It only has about 18,511,000+ registered users.

Well, the creator of the game, Markus 'Notch' Persson, made a small game called 'Minicraft', as an entry in the latest Ludum dare competition where developers are challenged to create a game in 48 hours based on the theme “Alone.”

You can play the game right here.
It has a workbench, multiple biomes to explore and different enemies to kill.
Sounds a bit like minecraft.

Oh, but let's not forget the motherf***ing pow glove

Humble Indie Bundle 4!

 http://www.nerd-age.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/The-Humble-Indie-Bundle-4-featured-image.gif

The humble indie bundle  returned yesterday with a fourth release, and has made over $1,268,700.00 (And rising) already!

The bundle contains 5 games and you choose the amount you pay, but if you pay over the average donation (which is as of typing this $5.35) you get 2 extra games.

The games are:

  • Jamestown
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Bit.Trip Runner
  • Shank
  • NightSky.
  • Gratuitous Space Battles (If you pay over $5.35 only)
  • Cave Story+ (If you pay over $5.35 only)
You can choose the amounts you'll give to the developers, to charity (Red Cross and Child's Play) and give a 'humble tip'
(The Humble Tip goes to Humble Bundle, Inc. itself, which pays for the bandwidth and development of this promotion.)

Do I recommend doing this? Of course! If the bundle keeps selling at this rate, it could hit the $14 million mark when it ends in 12 days time.
Humble Bundle organiser Richard Esguerra is understandably quite pleased. “We’re thrilled to see the gaming community respond so enthusiastically to this bundle, which has been about half a year in the making,” he says.

Bearded Dragon playing Ant Crusher

She's quite skilled!

Mojang is maybe going to release 'Cobalt' on Friday

Cobalt

Mojang have told Edge that they’re hoping to publish their first third party game, Cobalt this Friday, if all goes to plan.

“We haven’t told anyone [about the release date] yet because we’re aiming for Friday, but we don’t know if we can make it,” Mojang managing director Carl Manneh said to Edge. “But I think we can.”
Cobalt is a quirky robot platformer from Oxeye Game Studio. Mojang and Oxeye are working together to give it some extra polish before Friday. Like Minecraft, it will be released as an alpha and then regularly updated until it’s done.

Epic announced their new game 'Fortnite'

Epic announced a new game over the weekend called Fortnite. It’ll have a Team Fortress 2-esque art style and, according to Epic, is directly inspired by Notch’s indie block builder, Minecraft.

It looks like Fortnite will revolve around building forts to hold off waves of enemies that attack during the 'nite'.

In a tweet spotted by Eurogamer, Lead Designer Lee Perry says: “Minecraft was an inspiration for sure.”

Perry also says that chances are high that “weapon crafting/traps, lvl system, underground exploration, Boss fights, team survival mode,” and “rare loot” will be part of the game. He also tweets to say that Fortnite’s building system is “not scripted or just boarding up existing structures,” but won’t be completely free form. “Minecraft let’s you build ANYTHING, we are focusing on constructing ‘buildings’ specifically” he says.

Epic apparently haven’t yet decided a release window or platforms for the game.

I hope that they will release it on PC, I think Minecraft-type games are always the best when played on a PC

Just like Minecraft, it looks like you'll build during the day and cower in/defend your fort overnight.

Skyrim - Unarmed Badass Viking Commentary

I am actually going to try this HA! He has some nice tips, aswel.

I'm visiting family right now, haven't played any game for a week now.

I currently have
A nord, level 26, one handed, destruction- and restoration magic
A dark elf, level 9, magic only
Next is probably a Khajit, unarmed only. My mouse is going to feel it...

Are we taking this meme too far?

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2011/12/85ef1f9366d906289565091b66972bf8.jpg

"I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took an arrow to the knee."
That's what many guards say in the land of Skyrim when you talk to them.

Tattoo artist Nikkisny originally uploaded the tattoo to website FunnyJunk, noting:
I have a lot of silly tattoos along with tattoos that mean a lot to me. I am a professional tattoo artist and plan on being heavily covered. So I do NOT need to hear people bitching about how I'll 'regret it later'. I WON'T. I DO NOT REGRET ANY OF MY TATTOOS! I only live once so I'm doing what makes me happy.. whether you approve or not!

It's creative, for sure. But I wouldn't of done it.

Skyrim on Kinect

How do you make the controls TESV:Skryim even more awkward than it is?
By adding Kinect controls, of course!

Let's not forget that you'll look like a bloody geek. But it's a nice idea.

You can use shouts and switch weapons by yelling at your Kinect.

Notch steps down as Minecraft lead designer

http://notch.tumblr.com/post/13633493969/och-med-dom-orden-sa-passar-jag-micken

As of yesterday, Jens Bergensten is the new lead developer on Minecraft. He will have the final say in all design decisions, so he will kinda sorta become my boss, I guess. I’ve promised him to not pull rank. ;)
Don't worry, lads. That doesn't mean Notch is leaving, he's just planning on a bit of a rest after working on minecraft for a year now. There still will be plenty of updates.

Ghost Recon Online: "being free-to-play is a counter to piracy", says Ubisoft producer

ghost-recon-online-1

People who pirate games will always find a way to.. Well, pirate games. Some games who are single player only, for example, will tell you that you need an active internet connection at all times. That's about as annoying as having a crapload of zits.
If you really want to fight piracy, and make people invest in something they truly think is worth the price, you should be making better games.

Ghost Recon Online producer Sébastien Arnoult says that free-to-play games are a response to piracy – and an alternative to the restrictive DRM that’s annoyed PC gamers in so many recent Ubisoft games.
“We are giving away most of the content for free because there’s no barrier to entry. To the users that are traditionally playing the game by getting it through Pirate Bay, we said, ‘Okay, go ahead guys. This is what you’re asking for. We’ve listened to you – we’re giving you this experience. It’s easy to download, there’s no DRM that will pollute your experience.’”
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/23/ghost-recon-online-being-free-to-play-is-a-counter-to-piracy-says-ubisoft-producer/
How big of an impact will this be? We can only wait and see.

Skyrim: AMAZING screenshots and must have mods!

Mods are the sole reason I bought TESV:Skyrim on PC.
It's a beautiful game, as seen here: http://deadendthrills.com/?cat=314
But if you don't have the latest video cards/processors like me, you might have to turn down your graphics settings, which makes the faces look horrible. No worries, though, because with a couple mods you could easily fix that.

1. Skyrim Better Performance This mod is the best. My game used to put my default settings on Medium, but now I can run the game on Ultra! There's SOME lag when I run outside, though. But I'm happy that I can now play it on high without any.

2. No More Blocky Faces. and More Detailed Faces Very helpful if you run Skyrim on medium or less.

You probably all noticed the blocky noses and chins of the human and elven characters in Skyrim.
This was caused by compressed textures with the _msn affix.
I have smoothed the noses and chins and saved them as uncompressed textures.

Updated version also removes blocky eyelids, ears and lips.
Brow ridges and wrinkels have not been removed, only the blocky ones have
been smoothed, because I did not want to alter the intended design.
This mod affects the following races, male and female including
old characters:

Imperial
Nord
Breton
Redguard
Dark Elf
High Elf
Wood Elf
Orc
 3. Map In Full 3D

This mod changes camera controls in ingame map view so it becomes possible to zoom in almost to the ground.
Watch video to see the result of this mod.

4. Enhanced Night Sky
This is a new edition of my Enhanced Night Sky mod, modified for the icy lands of Skyrim. It's a high resolution texture replacement for the night sky taken from real starfield photography. This will not affect the appearance of constellations (yes, the game has constellations finally!) which are contained in another file - this will simply enhance the backdrop for a much denser starfield.

5. Enhanced Blood Textures Tired of looking at plain jelly? Try chunky jelly!
Improved the existing default blood textures for map placed blood decals. Resolution increase from 512 to 2048.
New screen blood textures to have more of a splatter appear rather than a dot.

6.  Interface Hard Coded Key Tweaks The interface was obviously designed to be used with a controller, but now it's easier using a keyboard because of this mod.
What is changed:
1. Instead of a hard coded Tab, your Character Menu key/mouse button will now:
--- Close books!
--- Exit the map!
--- End dialog / trading
--- Exit crafting
--- Abandon lockpicking

2. Clicking the middle mouse button on an inventory item will zoom in on it and you can click and drag to rotate it (fun)
--- You can also use your Sprint key to zoom an item
--- The previous way to do this was using the C key, but this function was undocumented and hard coded
--- The C key hard code was removed to prevent conflicts

3. The map is moved using your set up/down/left/right keys instead of hard coded WASD
--- Center view is set to your Activate key instead of hard code E

4. Your left/right strafe keys control the lock rotation in the lockpick mini-game instead of hard coded A/D
--- The left/right arrow keys and Left Mouse/Right Mouse were also added as ways to rotate the lock
--- If you change your strafe keys, you may have to restart the game to get right strafe to rotate the lock

5. Pressing the favorites key again while in the favorites menu will now exit the favorites menu (what a concept)
--- The character menu key will still also close the favorites menu

6. If you have the Activate command bound to a mouse button (ex: Mouse 5) you can now take books!

7. You can drop items or mark them as favorites even if you have Sheathe/Ready or Toggle POV bound to a mouse button
--- Note that as always the interface won't update to show your changes, it will always show Drop as R and Favorite as F
--- In actuality, Drop is whatever you assigned to Sheathe/Ready and Mark as Favorite is what you assigned to Toggle POV

8. You can equip weapons to either hand with if you use your keyboard for your attack keys instead of the default mouse buttons

9. Turning book pages uses your strafe keys instead of hard coded A/D
--- Left/right arrow keys, left/right mouse, and mouse wheel still work to turn pages, too

10. The T key was hardcoded to recharge, now the Wait key/mouse button will do recharge (which is T by default)
--- Added to avoid conflicts in browsing the menus

7. Simple Borderless Window I love this mod, you can browse the net while playing the game without it having the borders in windowed mode.

A quick and simple launcher I've made to run the game with a borderless window. The program launches the game then sizes the window or just sizes it if the game is already running. The game window name must be "Skyrim" (it should be by default).

And that's it! (For now.)

Post in the comments if you have found some cool mods you'd like to share. (No nude mods, lol)

By the nine devines!

Sorry for the lack of news, I'm still playing Skyrim.
I'm 10 hours in as a Nord called "The Nord With No Name". (Yeah, couldn't find anything). I just entered the mage college, $h*t's ca$h.

The dragons seem to come more often than I expected, the finishing moves and shouts are SWEET and up to now I've had only 1 bug where a staff was floating in the air, but that's it.

Now I must go back to slaying some more dragons.

Fus roh DAH!

YES! I bought Skyrim and oh my GOD.
It is AMAZING! I must have it for the xbox now, too.
One thing that bugs me, though, is the menus, they're designed to be navigated with a controller. Gets on your nerves. But you'll get used to it after a while.

I'll lend a wired xbox controller from someone, so it's all good.

What I've not been playing.

I was thinking of buying a domain name from yahoo, but eff it. I can live with this.
In other jawdropping news, I haven't been playing MW3, Skyrim or Uncharted 3 yet. Can you believe it?
I will definitely pick up Skyrim tomorrow, though. And MW3 in maybe 6 months when it's at a cheap 2nd hand price. It's not like they'll announce a new CoD soon *cough*

Google adsense has been tough to me this month, but oh well.

That's it for today, a good night to everyone.

Steam has been HACKED!

Valve have just informed us that Steam’s database has been compromised.
An IM is being sent out to all Steam users. Here are the details straight from Gabe:
“Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked.”
Valve are “still investigating” the situation. They mention that there’s been no evidence of illegal credit card activity as yet, and that it’s probably a good idea to change both your Steam passwords. To do that, access Settings from the Steam menu within the client.
Newell signs off his IM with sincerity: “I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.”

Steam joins a long list of high profile targets who have recently been targeted by Hackers. Sony, Codemasters and Bioware have all taken the hit. Valve recently announced Steam Guard, designed to increase account security; Gabe even gave out his password to show off its true power. That makes us extra sad.
Click through for the IM in full.

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,
Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Gabe.

Oh damn, good thing I never used a credit card on my account

Well, crap. Saints Row 4 & Battlefield 4 confirmed

Saints Row: The Third isn't even out yet, but THQ executive VP Danny Bilson has already confirmed to CVG that a 4th entry is in the works, and it seems that, it's going to be.. "wilder".
"Like any game, if you have a great creative core to it you just keep exploiting that core." - Danny Bilson

"I know what Saints Row 4 is about and it is wilder than this one, comparing the new sequel to Saints Row: The Third." - Danny Bilson

As for Battlefield 4, when the third one has only been released 12 seconds ago, well.

EA president Frank Gibeau during a keynote at the University of Southern California said “There is going to be a Battlefield 4.” And, well. That's it.
When? We can only wait and see.

What really surprised me though, is that Treyarch hasn't announced a new Call of Duty, yet!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - The World of Skyrim

Alright, Bethesda.
I thought it was impossible to be more excited than I am already, but I was wrong.
The newest trailer for TESV:Skyrim shows us how beautiful the land of Skyrim really is.
I must stop talking now because I need to change pants.

Am I the only one that didn't buy Modern Warfare 3?

..Yes?
Last year, when Modern Warfare 2 came out, I waited in line at the gaming store at midnight.
On a tuesday! Needless to say I stayed home the day after, playing the campaign like a crazy MFer, And I have to say that the story went downhil from there. I mean, WW3!
Anyway.
I've lost some interest in games since then. The only games I'm really excited in at the moment are Skyrim and Skyward Sword. (Yes, Skyward Sword).

Did you buy Modern Warfare 3? How is it? What games are you planning on getting next?

Ubisoft have just announced Rainbow 6 Patriots

http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/11/Rainbow-6-Patriots-Thumbnail-610x250.jpg

http://rainbowsixgame.uk.ubi.com/home.php
It’s being developed by Ubisoft Montreal with the support of Ubisoft Toronto and Ubisoft Red Storm, and will arrive on PC in 2013. The single player campaign will pit Team Rainbow (goodies) against the True Patriots (baddies). The latter are a revolutionist group who claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians. So far, so Clancy.

Details are scarce, but we do know that you’ll be playing as Team Rainbow and will need to make “tough ethical decisions” to stop the “new breed” of terrorists. The campaign will be presented from different character’s perspectives, and there’ll be a fresh selection of co-op and multiplayer modes present.
“Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6,” says David Sears, creative director. Poor choice of words there, David.- PCGamer

Not much more has been revealed, but definitely will keep you updated.

New trailer for TES V:Skyrim!

Well, again, a new trailer has been released for Skyrim.
They really tease me with these trailers. Why, Bethesda!?

Alright, so. In this trailer, we see comparisons made between the concept art(!) and the game,
and how good they did it. We also see a glimpse of the Dark Brotherhood, a sketch of mammoth meat,
some new characters and new places!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer goes live action, fights dragon

Here's an awesome video Bethesda released today.
It's a live action trailer for Skyrim (That game that will make me kill myself one day waiting for it).

Enjoy.

"Interestingly, the man you see walking towards the dragon is entirely constructed from CGI, as putting a real person near the monster was considered too dangerous. An easy task for a company with enough money to create a high-budget live-action trailer for a game that looks great on its own. We can’t wait for Skyrim. It’s out on November 11." - PcMagazine

Battlefield 3 beta release date confirmed. Pre-order for early access

Battlefield 3 beta thumbnail
Hold smoke grenades! The Battlefield 3 beta will begin on September 29 and run until October 10. Pre-order the game from Origin beforehand and you’ll get early access on September 27. You also get early access if you pre-ordered Medal of Honor. Yes, that Medal of Honor. We predict Battlefield 3 will be significantly better.
If you’re wondering whether you’ll be able to get a playable framerate, check the Battlefield 3 system requirements.

Players who sign up for the beta will also get access to Battlelog, EA’s new social networking system. We’re not quite as excited about that part which will let you track stats and share progress with chums. You’ll also get the option to join the EA Gun Club. That will provide early access to an M1911 pistol and come special badges. When did buying games get so confusing eh?
The Beta will take place on the Operation Metro Map which will have you sharing bullets across the outskirts of Paris, a bombed out metro station and the city streets. You’ll be playing the Rush mode and attacking and defending M-COM stations, just like in Bad Company 2.
Hooo crap! So close, yet so far!

Battlefield 3 will need 100 hours to unlock an entire kit

Battlefield 3

It will take ‘something like 100 hours’ to completely unlock an entire kit in Battlefield 3 report bf3blog,. The number was confirmed by senior gameplay designer Alan Kertz on twitter this weekend. Responding to gamer 450bq’s question “How long would it take on average to complete a kit?”, Kertz replied “If you unlock every weapon, every gadget, and every unlock for every weapon… something like 100 hours.”
DICE are clearly aiming for longevity in their unlock system, and we’ll be able to see how well that philosophy holds up when Battlefield 3 is released on October 25th.
This is great news. It Didn't that long to unlock a complete class If you played a couple hours in BF:BC2 every day.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim screenshots show lizard men, cat men, Orcs and Elves

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - alert Argonian
Recently Bethesda released the results of their Skyrim character creator poll, a screenshot of a Dark Elf thief against he backdrop of a sinister aurora. Now more character screenshots have been gathered together on the Beth Blog, showing a lizardy Argonian, a feline Khajiit warrior, an Ork, a wood elf and some very serious looking human types. Absorb their frowns below.

Each image was created by a different journalist at Quakecon, with efforts from G4TV, Destructoid, JeuxVideo.fr, Eurogamer, Game Informer, Epic Battle Axe, Ripten and Kotaku.

Valve announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, playable at PAX

css go

As rumor confirmations go, this one’s pretty quick. Valve just issued a press release announcing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a standalone release that seems to be a full update of Counter-Strike: Source with new weapons, maps, matchmaking, leaderboards, and more. No screenshots have been released, but from Valve’s language, it seems like more of an “anniversary
edition” of CS:S that dresses up the existing content than a full-on sequel. CS:GO will also be released on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. Read the full press release within.
This is great news. Can't wait to see the new source engine at PAX. (Well, I'm not going of course)

Valve announces Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

 css go

VALVE ANNOUNCES COUNTER-STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE (CS: GO)
Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012
August 13, 2011 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).
Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombard, VP of Marketing at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and London Games Festival.

Counter Strike. One of my all time favourite games, But how could they possibly make it better? Don't like the idea of it being on consoles much. It's their second try on this. And the first one didn't go well. We'll see. I'm excited nonetheless.

Alright, first of all, I am NOT a fan of limited editions and preorder bonuses, simply because most of 'em are crap. But this one gives you an expansion pack and BF2 maps for free. Nice.

Physical warfare pack including 3 exclusive weapons? Ok, nice. But the other packs don't look too exciting though. Skins and dog tags? Meh.

Dishonored, An awesome looking title by Arkane

"Dishonored is the antithesis of a edge-of-your-seat roller-coaster ride. It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone. It's a game about infiltration where you can set up traps and slaughter the entire garrison of an aristocrat's mansion rather than sneak in. It's a game about brutal violence where you can slip in and out of a fortified barracks with nobody ever knowing you were there. It's a game about morality and player choice where the world you create is based on your actions, not navigating conversation trees."
Many people think this is going to be a stealth first person shooter, but we've barely seen anything about this, yet. So I don't have much to talk about.

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1208215-what-engine-will-dishonored-use/page__p__18063086#entry18063086
What engine wille dishonored use?
"Well in fact there's no such thing as "Unreal 3.5": the guys at Epic keep adding features, fixing stuff, improving their code, etc... And from time to time, when they consider their engine evolved enough compared to the previous major version, they promote it to a new version number.

So basically for Dishonored we're keeping an eye on these changes, grab some, leave others, and also developed a whole bunch of homemade features. But we're definitely somewhere in-between Unreal 3.0 and Unreal 3.5 ! :)"

I'll keep you guys updated. Man, this is looking cool!

Facebook Hires Sony PS3 Hacker

George Hotz, the 21-year-old Sony hacker sued for breaking into the PlayStation 3 console, is now on the payroll at Facebook.

Facebook's hiring of Hotz, known in the hacker community as Geohot, was first reported by the technology blog TechUnwrapped, and later confirmed via Twitter by Gabe Rivera, founder of tech news Web site Techmeme .

Facebook has not disclosed why Hotz was hired, but The Washington Post reported Hotz will be working on the social networking giant’s impending iPad app.

Hotz first started making a name for himself in 2008 by jailbreaking the iPhone, which untethers the device from its carrier and allows it to run on any network, as well as run apps outside of Apple (NSDQ:AAPL)’s App Store.
Yeah. Hack a bunch of shit, then get a job at FACEBOOK. I hope he turns his back on them.
Give it a read: http://www.crn.com/news/security/231000713/facebook-hires-sony-ps3-hacker.htm;jsessionid=hVfl-hrxUZx4xKgknSHsgA**.ecappj03

What.

Well. I feel like asking a question to you guys.

I'm a huge game nut. I love them ever since I was able to hold a controller.
But lately I kinda stopped playing them,
and if I DO play one then I get bored quickly.

I was just wondering if any of you guys had the same thing?

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon gameplay

It's amazing looking, the cinematic scenes are looking good, And the eject seat at the end was a surprise

Tribes: Ascend Will Be Free, Certainly Tribal

Now I thought we had already posted about Tribes: Ascend being free-to-play. Perhaps it was simply in one of my prophetic game-news dreams, because I can’t find it. BUT ANYWAY, it is going to be free-to-play, and to celebrate that Hi-Rez have revealed the game in action. You can check it out below. It certainly looks like a new Tribes game to me, which is promising! Looking forward to playing this. I will be the dude at 0:26. (Although the wider picture makes Firefall look a lot more interesting.)Tribes: Ascend is apparently out later this year at some point.

EA Sports Won’t Say MMA’s Dead, but Won’t Say It’s Getting a Sequel, Either

To many, the UFC's acquisition of the competing fight series Strikeforce in March spelled the end of EA Sports MMA. While EA Sports' chief of development did not say that a sequel is in development, he did not say the label was quitting the sport altogether.
"A world where we're not involved in fighting is a world I'd rather not think about," Andrew Wilson told Kotaku. "That said, what goes on in the sport, and what's gone on between the UFC and Strikeforce, certainly has an impact on what we can do in the space."
Strikeforce, as the principal licensor of EA Sports MMA brought some visibility and legitimacy to the project, although both were overshadowed by the dominant UFC brand and its THQ game, which had a breakout hit in 2009 and published a sequel before EA Sports MMA hit shelves.
What do y'all think? I like the MMA games, wouldn't like for it to die.
Those games and the fight night round games are getting better each year.

According to new developer 343 Industries, the changes aren't just aesthetic. Chief will demonstrate some new behaviour as well, but not without reason.

"There's some story behind his new look," explained studio boss Frank O'Connor in an E3 interview. "There are specific reasons why he looks the way he does and why some of his behaviours have changed. We'll see in good time."

Halo 4 was made official during Microsoft's E3 press conference this month when it was labelled "the dawn of a new trilogy".

According to O'Conner, some details on Halo's 4 plot - maybe even hints on Master Chief's new mental breakdown - will be sprinkled throughout Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary.
